The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the United States against five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
